Thanks, will have to bookmark that site.
Odd how many words have a Webster's 1913 citation.

Just realised the "extras" don't make limeade at all - but they do make "add lime" which makes a bit more sense!

Hmm. Took a closer look at that.

The extras are (clockwise): LD, DE, IM, MA.
So 8 letters, 2 Ms from different sources.

MILD EDAM or MILD MEAD.

Too bad, was a good idea.

I'm thinking the M at 1D/1A can't be considered as an "extra" cos u need it for the fruity part of 1A.

I see your point, but it is an "extra" in 1D.

Whoa, didn't we get accused of being pedantic here a while back. ;-)

Initially, got hung up by starting 1A with SU, giving a tomato, technically a 7A. That didn't work. Then tried the current answer, which is a beet, so was really confused until I came here and read SL's question.
Then the penny dropped, re "partial".

Lavatch always gives me a challenge.

TONY - Thanks for your explanation of the 'doughnut' part of 12 A. Even though I had the answer, I hated not knowing the rationale behind part of it!

Sudoku - I've got (lemon)de, so the 'de' thing is there, at the end. That's probably what other solvers did too.
