Hi Terry - funnily enough I checked the spelling of 20a when I did this crossword this morning and it does give the alternative spelling with one R in my dictionary.

Crypto,
I'm not saying one R is wrong, it's just not what I am used to. There's probably a dictionary somewhere with "bootiful" as an alternative to beautiful but it would still rankle with me.

Les40 - Have got three to go at now so will keep me busy. I am enjoying doing them although scratching my head a bit and not as quick as the other " experts ".
Thank you.

Terry.
It gives both spellings in the Chambers, which I thought was quite acceptable, I didn' t think that would trouble you guys, especially when crosswords such as Mephisto often use Old English and rare versions of spellings. Anyway. I agree that their is enough to work with in the Dropbox for now. I will wait till weekend again to add another.
In fact, I will compile another themed for Crypto, and try and make it a bit trickier.

I'm new to this site and can't quite find my way around yet! A couple of days ago (or it could have been yesterday) I downloaded a crossword from here which I thoroughly enjoyed. However, I had a problem with 3 down. I think the answer is ennui" which means boredom but I can't see the first part of the clue. Can anyone help please?

hi Wendy,I seem to remember that Ennui is pronounced on-wee or,on wii(Nintendo Wii - which is a games console).somebody on the wii is playing a game.
I don't have the clue in front of me so i could be wrong.

Hi Wendy,
Trevor is correct, The clue starts. Where one hears.... (sounds like) and ennui is pronounced on-wee.
When I wrote the clue, I was just being up-to-date with the Wii machine console. Glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks for help with Ennui which I said on another thread.

Have just one left to do of the Red Herring which is 8 across. I have ?u?s. Tried cheating with Chambers but there are too many results! So I'm stumped. Unless it's bums, of course!

I agonised for ages over 23 across trying to think of a word for something on the forehead! Silly me. That must have been one of your Red Herrings.

Any help with 8a will be appreciated.
