Sudokulover - congratulations on your win - good start to the New Year Have only just caught up with this, as I've been out most of the day.

Can someone please clear up 20ac for me? It looks like it should be an anagram of "subtler if", but the answer I've got requires an extra "i". Where does the missing "i" come from?

It is indeed an anagram, and the extra "i" comes from "indeed"

One final (I think) loose end. I've got the answer for 2dn, but can't see the wordplay. Sapper must be RE or REME, but where does money fit in?

Peterm = rather loose, I thought. Chambers says that one of the meanings of "remember" is to bear in mind as deserving of a tip, or gratitude. Loosely bequeath? And sapper - member of the RE.

Thx AJT. I can go with remember meaning bequeath, but again I don't much like the rest of the clue.

I think with the concept of "remember me in your will", the question mark at the end, and the crossing letters, the clue, although not the best in this puzzle, holds up.
