Have tried assorted types of pizza and no islands spring to mind. (Grandchildren suggested pizza huts ..!!) Did think of margherita and names with mario but letters do not fit. Thanks for all suggestions.

I think it is STROMBOLI

Stromboli is a small island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the north coast of Sicily, containing one of the three active volcanoes in Italy. It is one of the seven Aeolian Islands, a volcanic arc north of Sicily.

Stromboli is also a type of turnover filled with various cheeses, Italian meats such as salami, capicola and bresaola or vegetables. The dough is Italian bread dough or pizza dough, and it is essentially a rolled pizza, as whether baked flat for pizza, folded over for calzones, or spiraled for stromboli, the dough and toppings remain largely the same.

Sorry, shorter explanation for why it is Stromboli:

Stromboli is an island at the north of Sicily, and Stromboli is also a type of turnover in the pizza family.

I thought of STROMBOLI as well, once I started thinking of islands with long names.

Sammy and Mark...brilliant. Thank you for all your research (thought Stromboli was just a volcano) For me a welcome release from poring over an atlas and fruitless googling!
