23d - Loud act to follow a weak spot -L-W
24d - Scarlet duck flies up from this river
-D-R (I think it might be Oder but why?)

22a. also (hidden word).
23d. flaw.
24d. scarlet = red, duck = 0 , read upwards = oder.

I guess we are delayed by several weeks in Canada! These clues are from a Sunday London Times crossword that appears in my local Ottawa Citizen on Dec. 26, but I see from the posting dates that it must have been available in England in November. I enjoy these puzzles, but find them difficult because they often contain British references that I do not understand. Could someone please explain to me in what context DUCk = 0?

In cricket if you score nothing, you get a duck's egg, O, hence "duck" for nothing.

For example, in cricket if a batsman scores 0 he is said to be out for a duck, also used in other sports when someone doesn't score.

Thank you AB and Crypto! I guess I'll have to learn a few more cricket terms. Interestingly, I have heard zero referred to as a goose egg, rather than your duck's egg.
