The only answer I can get is DOXOLOGY

How does that fit with the clue, what has it got to do with Gloria?

DOXOLOGY is defined as a hymn or liturgical formula ascribing glory to God

DOCKS (reportedly / sounds like cuts short) and OLOGY (a science - remember the Beattie TV ads!)
