For 26d I have enfeeble (my clue is make weak?)

thanks sudokulover. Slight typing error there in my haste to get answers. Enfeeble fits with rebuffed - etc so thanks for that. Thanks also for conjectured - I had put truth instead of truer. Many thanks for help - much appreciated.
