I'm stuck on these 7 lettered clues:

2D Bathed in evening glow, Maureen, drunk, carries on
M-----T (is this moonlit, if so why?)
7D Doctor slices fish in cold belt
ends with A
9A Frank's at university opening
--F---T
12A It's encrusted with gems, say, and contested
--E---D

Moonlit - Mo for Maureen - common abbreviation; drunk - lit, carries "on"

Thank you for the wordplay - I thought that was the answer but couldn't see why

12a duelled - sounds like jewelled

So now we have:

9A Frank's at university opening
--F-O-T
12A It's encrusted with gems, say, and contested
--E-L-D

7d Tun(dr)a
12a Duelled

I think frank must be upfront: up for at uni, and front for opening, but not very good, I think

Terry - I wondered about Upfront, but again details of wordplay escape me - how does that work, please?
