Looking for help again.

I have the name,the title, the nickname and a good idea where the number should go.
But I am completely bamboozled by the letter which must be circled.
Is it part of what must be highlighted ?

Despite my final bamboozlement I really enjoyed this puzzle. (I am Scottish, so perhaps had more knowledge of the theme than some.)

I realized that - and his fate could explain a lower letter than the one in his name

Fred, I think the first letter of the name on the diagonal must be highlighted. But it’s two cells vertically below where you might expect it to be, so it forms a contiguous L shape. It’s circled to indicate that it’s been chopped from its usual position, but is a thematic item in common with the other removed words.

That’s how I read it, anyway. Others are free to offer a different interpretation

Quisling - I agree with your interpretation The circle is where the bowed thematic item is placed through prior to the character meeting their particular fate. My other interpretation came afterwards!
