Anyone doing this?
I thought I was making good progress, but ground to a halt with the NW and SE quarters particularly.
Help with 1a and 35d would be useful.
1a Apple in California victory following undisguised negotiation
(7)
35d Windows have perhaps primarily come as replacement for old Victorian cash (5)
I think each has one extra word, otherwise straight clues.

1 A. The apple is American, I'd never heard of it. There's the usual three-letter 'victory' after a common 'undisguised', plain etc. The apple's also the name of an old PM....

In 35d the second word is extra. Windows refers to the Microsoft version, a two letter abbreviation, then three initial letters. The answer is a man’s name, old Aussie slang for money

I saw the PM's name come up, and thought no point looking that up, that can't be an apple!
Anything on 35d for me?

Wow, 35d is very tough and devious.
I'm confused though by clue 12a which days the 'country' is six places ahead of the 'cash'. Surely six places behind?

Glad we could help, Lumen. 12 A - isn't the anwer, the letter, ahead of 35, in the alphabet? If you're third in a race, and it was written in a list, you're six ahead of the person who came in ninth...

I have a filled grid, with lines, and have identified the items in the first category (easy enough!), but can find only one short item in the second, and nothing at all in the third. Nor can I see where to put digits. It would help to have lengths for the three categories - I have 6,6 and 3 so far. Since it's not a competition I hope this won't be ruled an unfair contribution. (If the single item in the third category is one of those possessed by the theme then I still can't find it.)

Think your 3 is wrong. I have 6,6; 5,5; and 8. Including the cells with a digit.

Ah. Got the 8 now, after a little gap to watch the GP. My 3 certainly fits the requirement, but i shall try to forget it and look elsewhere. I can't see what is needed for the digits yet. Let's hope light dawns before I have to go to Augusta. (And my lot won all four boat races!)

NW,SW and SE quadrants all done, but cannot get anywhere in the NE quadrant. I have an African language at 8d and a (thematic) nationality at 9d - but cannot see 6,14 or 16a, 6d,7d and 19d. Any help would be much appreciated.
