BuzzyBee, the point was pertinent to me - I try to hint for thematics, sometimes hint for prize puzzles! Many answers are given for prize puzzles, for many publications.

This topic/issue comes up every so often - and is even mentioned in the Guidelines For Posting. Helpers are free to decide whether they wish to give hints, answers or nothing at all. The Listener puzzles are the only ones where the site administrator has indicated 'No answers'. There's a convention - only a convention, definitely not a rule - on clues only being given for Guardian and Observer prize puzzles.

OK, no further comments, since Norah has requested that we should avoid "heated arguments". Many rather more significant things going on in the world at the moment.

There’s not much chance of winning a prize with the Speccy unless you live in a foreign country anyway 🤣

I won a copy of the BRB when it was still on offer and have had 2 or 3 cheques for £20.00. I don't know how far the reach is for John Lewis vouchers.
