Can't parse these:
29a Spelling master in revolutionary English school (4).
Mage. Definition is spelling master, e = English, but I can't see the school.

48a Goon, Mad Dan, old fool making pastry (6,4)
Eccles cake?

29a GAM is a school of whales

spike milligan from the goons was "eccles"

Thanks sudokulover, ref 48a if Goon = Eccles, how does the rest of the clue give us cake?

“Mad Dan Eccles” was the full name of the Goon character.
Cake is an old word for fool , Chambers says “archaic slang”.
