Geeker @48 - ah, the '79 Sonics! One of my favorite teams. What would Gus Johnson and Fred Brown have done had there been a 3-point line for their entire careers?

That team also had pre-Celtics Dennis Johnson and post-Celtics Paul Silas.

The next year (79-80) the NBA introduced the 3 point line; Fred Brown shot 44.3% from downtown (which would rank 3rd in the NBA this season) - but took only 88 3-pointers for the entire season. Steph Curry averages 11 attempts per game this year.

Fun fact - NBA ratings were so low back then that CBS showed some finals games on tape delay. I remember watching the 7'9 finals on a 13 inch black and white TV in my dorm room at 11 pm.

I could go on and on.....

Stats brought to you by basketball reference and ESPN.

I'm not sure if we've exhausted every town in County Down, but there are just under three hours left if I have the DST discrepancies figured correctly.

buddy, I don't follow sports much any more, but was a hoops fan (and recreational player) back in those days. Great Seattle 1979 team, also included Jack Sikma. Freddie Brown was really something. Trying to guard him must have been a nightmare. I called him a '70s player, but he of course played until 1984.

When I chose the word, I fully expected a reference to Miss Petula Clark, and Chris got that out of the way right off the bat. Being on the west side of the Atlantic, I didn't expect the references to a certain Irish county. I think tyke @21 had the best of those, but I feel it needed a "?" to indicate DBA, so he just missed the podium.

The bronze goes to Buddy for his seemingly unintended double def. @23. Grabbing silver is amej with his "Downtown Abbey" clue @28. I always call the show that. And the gold goes to Jono @30 with a very nice surface:

Urban area, the back of beyond, now won’t be redeveloped (8)

Congrats, Jon. Here are your prizes:

I am splitting time between Tulsa and San Diego until I can move to the coast permanently, so you can check out each city's downtown.

And finally the song that no one referenced. To be fair, I only knew of it through my teenage children. (Language warning)
