Yes. For example, one ac clue could be either 1 of the 10 or 'orthodox' (although the latter answer is obsolete). Another of the 10 could come from two clues.

very clever crossword and a fun solve. I was held up for a long time having entered a word for a length of cloth in 13 - and then couldn't decide on the Greek character until I realised it was thematic!

I suggest the Greek character is not thematic. The 4-letter word you seek is elsewhere! This caught me too.

Yes, agreed, a lot of fun. Theme emerged after finding two of the longer clues without wordplay or definition and a little help from Google.

However, Mothman, I do believe the Greek character clue is thematic - otherwise cannot find the 8th missing letter.
