Does the message around the perimeter go clockwise or
anticlockwise ?

The instruction of 12 letters. I have a 5 letter word then 7 letters which don't make any sense ?

Thanks

Krauton, apropos the instruction try splittiing your 7 letters 3,4.

Thanks to Chalicea for an enjoyable, gentle and - as always - impeccably crafted puzzle.

Thanks, I had the wrong eleventh extra letter due to an equally valid solution to the relevant clue.

23d - Did anyone else think "the greatest" was referring to a former pugilist?

Thankfully I was able to spot the mistake and correct it fairly quickly.

If it was referring to the boxer, then "possible" would serve no purpose in the clue; surely, Shirley, a mistake she would never make. Whereas "the greatest possible" is verbatim a def. of the 3-letter word she had in mind ( I find that Chalicea often uses verbatim language from the BRB).

You're right, of course, Buddy, but I had convinced myself that the next 3 letters could come from "possible defect".

Like I said though, it was easy to spot my mistake as I had all the other extra letters.
