Not a very good puzzle, I thought. One particularly awful clue!

Why did he think the film was called that?

I have one unsolved:
Atmosphere nearly by ear (4)
A?R?
There's an obvious answer that fits the definition, but how does the wordplay work?

Chris, if you add an L you would get a word for “by ear”. I guess that is how it is supposed to work.

Not sure I understand your issue with the first clue - is the answer not Casablanca?

Yes it is, but in what way is it cryptic? The film was called Casablanca because it was set in an African city called.....er....Casablanca!
