Thanks all for competing in this week’s clueless, an impressive 47 entries, including an impressive(?) 21 from raffles alone.
Perhaps in setting a 3-letter word I made a rod for my own back in having to judge a high number of excellent clues. In the end my not-so-short list had 16 entries on it - including at least one from every entrant!
I had a hard job in whittling it down further to my top 5:
In fifth I have simplesimon @4 with their mini military story.
In fourth, amej @38 for a very clean and succinct clue which conjures quite an interesting image.
Number three - raffles @21 for a clue with a nice bit of wordplay and concise construction.
For the silver, tyke @17 for a similarly amusing surface reading and simple technique.
As you might have guessed I was keen on seeing interesting definitions for what does seem a fairly uninspiring word.
To get to the point my favourite clue was jono’s double definition @40 for 2 fun definitions combined into another, seemingly unrelated, surface. The winning clue:
That which dashes the hopes of a maiden (3)
Well done jono, and to all else who competed, giving me immense trouble on deciding a winner and some runners up!
As prizes, a healthy selection of vaguely on-topic clips from various TV shows (and absolutely nothing else…)
