Nice one, fiery. Thanks, paul.
That last clip summoned such memories. My best friend wrote speeches for Reagan. On one of our visits to Washington he was giving us (my wife and me and our young children and his) an after-hours tour of the Capitol and offered to show us the Oval Office too, but the kids begged to go back to his house and play in the sprinkler instead. They weren’t impressed by the Senate chamber so I suppose the White House would have been a yawn. That would’ve been cool though, a nighttime visit to the Oval Office. My friend said Reagan was a riot. Never met him myself.

Indeed Aristo, Reagan struck me as a gas-man. Those great jokes aimed at the Soviets!
As an aside, I remember him visiting Ireland in 1984; the little village in Tipperary. Bushmills whiskey (my favourite) were quick to get in on the act and put up a billboard reading:- “BUSH, the President’s Choice” [not to be confused with later presidents - Bush is how we order a Bushmills]. The Secret Service took umbrage and the next day painted out the “P”. The publicity this generated couldn’t be bought! Even a Building Society then got in on the act by taking out front page ads in the dailies reading:- “Irish Permanent, the resident’s choice”.

Neat story.
This all reminds me that we used to get a Christmas card from the Reagans. Hm. I wonder if we still have them…

Thank you Paul for hosting and for the bronze medal. As an acrophobe the lowest step on the podium suits me but I am trying aversion therapy so I can climb higher.
