29 down, empty bottles, for michelin, from publicity agents (4,3) I think the answer is dead men as maybe this means empty bottles and the publicity agents are ad men but I'm stuck on where the de comes in, is this something to do with michelin?

I think perhaps Michelin is working as a French indicator, so from=de.

Hello everyone. I posted this separately above, but my post has obviously crossed with this one. So I’m repeating it here in case my original post disappears.

Please can anyone explain the following?

39a: Out of danger, sailors avoiding drink completely (2,3,5)
Answer looks like IN THE CLEAR, but what does it have to do with sailors or drink?

43a: Snubbed gogo dancer opens a drunken event (3-3-5,4)
Answer appears to be EGG-AND-SPOON RACE. It looks like an anagram (indicated by DRUNKEN) of GOGO DANCER OPENS A, but the anagram doesn’t quite work - there’s an extra O which doesn’t fit. And what does SNUBBED refer to?

11d: Lacking originality, college opening should be seen in new vein (11)
UNINVENTIVE? If so, how does the parsing work?

All help gratefully received!

Thanks Jojo, I did wonder if that was the case, just thought it was a bit vague

43 does "snubbed" indicate taking the end off GOGO? Not impressed if that's what's intended!
11 UNI - college
VENT - opening
inside anagram VEIN

Snubbed can mean “cut short”, so I think it’s ok.

Thanks chrise. Given this crossword’s high proportion of deletion-type clues (which I hate, because they’re impossible to solve just from the wordplay), that’s quite a plausible explanation. But I’ve never come across SNUBBED being used as a deletion indicator - and like you I’m not impressed if that’s the answer!

11 down, lacking originality, college opening should be seen in new vein. I think uni is the college then vent is the opening inside an anagram of vein, so unin(vent)ive

39 across I think they've taken Abs from absinthe, then clear =completely. So (abs)in the clear.
Not sure though

Thanks gingernut. Another bloody deletion? No wonder I couldn’t solve it!
