Chalicea has done a toughie (I think). Not sure it will appeal to the fan base but I enjoyed it (Best Wishes for a happier New Year, RR).

I sure need a New Year shove, drxx, if you would be so kind. I’ve completed the grid and I think found all the words of the final instruction, but I can’t make sense of the middle words from clue 37a to clue 9 d. I must be missing something.

They refer to the already shaded areas, jogamel (and an apostrophe is needed).

I enjoyed it too, a bit tougher than usual from Chalicea and a neat construction....many thanks and a happy new year to all setters and solvers.

Treat the last 4 words of the quote as a wordplay-only cryptic clue
