There's no 'smugness' involved (ESPECIALLY from Mamya). The regulars on this site like to pit their minds against the setters and help others at the same time. They despair when others exclude them by just submitting the Crossie Name and the clue number. Not everyone has your paper to hand. The "New Thread" page SPECIFICALLY ASKS for these details to be submitted with your query. It's just good manners to do so and very bad manners not to. That's why Mamya and others despair (you seem to assume it because they think the answer if obvious. Not at all!)

The Judge is correct, I am never smug but do wonder how we are to help if not given the clue.

As a Guardian crossword participant and erstwhile regular contributer to this forum I must apologise for the loutish behaviour of those who seek support without entering into the true spirit of this forum and then become abusive when politely requested to comply. I can only assume they are DT subscribers who are, unsuccessfully, attempting to punch above their weight
