Can I ask for help please?

I have found this extraordinarily difficult.

1a - Top stated means of getting mobile after a fall (6)

I have no idea where the definition is; I have tried putting TRIP (fall) at the start to no avail.

Am I allowed to ask about every clue…?!

1a is quite tricky bit rather good. “Stated” is a homophone indicator and you need to think of “top” in the sense an assassin might.
The entire rest of the clue is the very cryptic definition…

The 'stated' indicates that it's a 'sounds like' clue - and you're looking for a word that sounds like top, kill someone. And you're looking for a form of transprt - the means of getting mobile after a fall (of snow....)
So 'top' is is the definiiton, the rest is various aspects of wordplay.

This was a tough clue. For "after a fall" think snowfall.

Not as tough as today’s 16d. That one took me almost as long as the entire rest of the puzzle.

I was tired after a long day at work, didn't want to spend much time, and that was one of 2 solutions for which I hit the "reveal" button. Good clue, though. The other was 24a, a dd for which I lacked the GK.

16d needed a quick visit to Word Wizard.

Please forgive me intruding with a plea for help. I’m a subscriber and have been doing the quick crossword both online or on paper and daily doing the Codeword. I have updated my Guardian app as instructed and now am unable to enter text at all. I’d happily revert to the old system in sheer frustration. I’ve tried emailing the G for help but so far have had no reply. Has anyone had this problem and solved it?
