1234matt.the unclued entries are pairs of anagrams. In no particular order they are 1A/13D, 261/16D - 31D (16D is reversed), 34A/20D, 39A/25D, 15A/11D.

I've got DA?, so only one answer seems to fit. But then I still have to determine the "theme". Enlightenment would be appreciated.

Your DA? is the one mentioned in the preamble ('read in reverse') and it goes with the answer to 31a - an anagram of the two words gives the answer at 26a - that's the theme (Exchanges = anarams).

Yes, thanks, I'm OK with that, in fact. It's the "(each) somehow related to each other" that's troubling me. Sure, I've got 5 pairs of anagrams, but no two pairs seem to have anything much in common.

Also, I'm stuck on the "Aussie fish". ?e?carp. "wex" = "swell", but not a type of carp, it would seem. Do I just need a better fish dictionary or have I gone wildly wrong somewhere?

SEA CARP (the 'swell' = poetic/figurative 'sea' and to carp is to nag/complain).

I think the ''each... related...'' simply means that pairs are related via their anagrams, there's no over-arching connection.
