Thanks, paul. I was off the forum last weekend because of power outage. I've been in a PR/Clueless setting slump. With the competition having gotten a lot tougher recently, I'm only entering if I think the clue is of decent quality. I looked at the new thread but inspiration hasn't yet struck.

To be frank INHO the competition hasn’t got tougher, just more voluminous…

[Added] I did see that clue, good one! I'd thought of using the central 5-letter component but couldn't make anything work.

Anyway don’t forget that even the worst possible candidate still confers equal rights in the voting stakes…yes I am drawing the parallel…
