Duplicate thread by Andyold

18d - Tweet about rugby players - "get more gay!"(5,2) C?E?R UP
The answer seems obvious but I cannot parse the cryptic solution. Thanks in anticipation

Looks like CHEEP (tweet) around RU (rugby union), but I don't see why "players" is needed.

Andy, I have copied and pasted your duplicate thread into the existing
Private Eye thread.

Could you please read the two threads headed PLEASE READ which I have just bumped to the top. They deal with Duplicate threads and our Posting Guidelines which I think you might find useful.

I thought the answer was Cherp Up, Cheep Up would not quite make sense. I think birds Cherp and only go "cheep" in pet shops.

Hally, I think Cheep being synonymous with Tweet is totally fine. Chambers says 'cheep, to chirp, as a young bird' I can't find 'cherp' anywhere. No-one suggested 'Cheep up' - for me, the Cheep is broken up with the RU, rugby inside, Chee RU p.

Rogue chops off racehorse's head (6). I have R-T-E-. Is it ROTTER? If so, I can't parse it.

Thank you Malone. I am sure you are right. I was about to correct my spelling of Cherp to Chirp, but Cheer Up makes more sense as you say.

A TROTTER is a type of racehorse (though not as fast as some!)
