Well remembered! It was Soup, 29,446 that had the acrostic in the first letters of the clues (and more besides in the grid…)

Just to say that on further reflection I think my answer to 1ac was right the first time. It is the right tense with the "e" and at a stretch means irritate and is a better synonym for Party.

I quite like 1a even with e/o ambiguity, due to the unusual (to me) use of "number"
