I’ve the same opinion of High Noon as Howard Hawks - the best thing about it was the song.
Hawks made Rio Bravo as an antidote.
Apparently the Godfather’s horses head is based on Hawks/Rio Bravo - the NYC sharp suits told Hawks that Dean Martin was going to be the next big cowboy star. HH had never heard of DM and asked his researchers who reported that he got drunk and sang, so he cast Deano as a drunken singing cowboy, and had one of the great songs written for him - my rifle, my pony and me (the only three things a cowboy ever cared about).
