Not much help, gooner, but I couldn't parse that one either. All I got to was "Charlie" - fits a definition somewhat loosely I guess.

Silly (def as a noun). To turn to carbon is to CHAR and LIE in legal terms is to be sustainable (see Chambers).

1d 'Charging point on route' (3,4).

The solution appears to be 'BUS STOP' but I don't get the parsing. I assume the definition is 'point on route' - or even the whole clue at a push. I think a 'bus' is some kind of route or channel in computing but I just cannot pull it all together. Any suggestions out there please?

Possibly a ref to Fare Stage where a bus stop on the route denotes the charge payable from that point?
