Good morning all!
Have not yet received my copy of RT even though it has been dispatched. Heads will roll in the Cheshire postal service!!
Thanks Caravaggio, my recovery goes well and have had the all-clear from my consultant. I too dabble with the Telegraph crosswords, so the tip about Big Dave (rather an intimidating name) was useful. What a well organised web site!
Nice to hear from Old Gal - yes, I will continue to make contributions to the site - it gave me encouragement and confidence to tackle cryptic crosswords.
More - if & when RT appears in the mailbox!!

I`ll reply to Nimrod and not to some of the earlier silly contributions. Glad to hear, Nimrod, that you have been given the all clear by your consultant.

Unlike many of you, I am still stuck on three - 7A, 11A and 6D. I have a possible answer for 11A which involves bad connections to the slave trade. Am I going in the right direction with this? Help Philip, Karen, Caravaggio or anyone. My favourite clue has to be 18A as it reminded me of a great film! Anyone else like it?

Speak to you all again

With reference to earlier entry by me, I have now looked on `Quick Solve` for 11A and see I was a million miles off with my suggestion and I have learnt a new word. Because I got this 11A I have also now got 6D. Still stuck on 7A but will have to see if anyone replies tomorrow as my time is now up!!

Hi Mondrian,

Yes, I'm still here despite the morons' attempts to despoil out thread...

7a. Fifty one in Roman numerals within a three-letter word for a spell [although that word can also mean a witch or a wizard] and is usually associated with voodoo.

11a. Order of the British Empire followed by an acceptable abbreviation for 'island' and the standard cryptic crossword interpretation of 'worker'.

6d. Three-letter word for conclusion prefaced by a synonym for 'should' backwards will give you a word which means "a devil; a person driven by the most intense wickedness or hate; an addict or devotee" Chambers.

I hope that will help. I'm going out for a couple of hours but I'll be back to see how you've got on!

Kind regards,

Caravaggio

Good Morning everybody-I actually bought my RT earlier this week so I could join in the conversation. But I see it took a somewhat acrimonious turn for some reason. However, not to worry! The Old Faithfuls [as some of the regulars will know themselves to be] are here as usual and I'm delighted to see that THEY do not resort to nastiness. Good for you! And as I tried some other crosswords this week I came across some of you on the Forums. I liked that and it gave me a boost towards doing more than just the one I do every week. Anyway, to the puzzle. I swam through it very nicely but am still stuck on 7a and I may resort to Quicksolve. I felt quite gratified that one of you OFs did the same, so I don't feel I'm cheating. As for 5d, well I don't quite get the logic so maybe I've got the wrong answer. My greetings to you all as usual. Charlie approves this message.

Charles, with reference to 5d. when you just beat someone, you are said to pip them to the post. Also the pips are a radio time signal.

Oh Torvic! I was way off! Thank you. It's always the little ones which stump me. Incidentally, when and how does the Newsletter reach us? I dutifully tick the box but so far have heard nothing. Does anyone know?

Charles, I've never received a newsletter and others here have also commented on never getting it. My feeling is that this website has not been completed, for example it's possible to log in as any other poster, and enter anything as an email address. This leads some childish posters to impersonate others and leave offensive posts.
However, the majority of contributers are friendly and helpful, so the best policy is to totally ignore the bad posts, whoever they appear to be from.

Ah Torvic! I too was stuck on 5d so thanks for the hint but it puts my answer to 11a out!!! Damn it! Back to the drawing board! As to the infiltrators, i just suggest we ignore them - not worth replying to their stupidity. Good weekend everyone!
