Stuck on two clues.

18 a) Swallow in trepidation as promotion is rejected. (4) I have : ?U?P
Presume the answer is GULP, but why?

28 a) Cold shoulder - of lamb? (3). I have C?T
Presume CUT, but again, can't work it out.

GULP is PLUG backwards, which could be a promotion (for a book or film, for example).

If you cut someone, you ignore or cold shoulder them, and it could be a cut or joint of lamb, perhaps.

OK, worked out 18 a, PLUG backwards (promotion)

28a Double definition Cut ( as in “cut him dead” - cold shoulder) and cut ( a particular piece of meat such as a shoulder of lamb)
