Like many, I found this much more difficult than the typical Everyman. I knew 25 to be a Cockney reference but it still took awhile. Apparently 26 is also? I wrote in the only thing that seemed to fit, and I think it’s right, but I’m still mystified. A few other iffy clues didn’t help either.

Darla, if it helps…
It’s said that in the days of the British Empire the Indian 25 rupee note had a picture of a pony on it, and the 500 rupee note that of a monkey. When the British soldiers returned from India they adopted these animals as slang terms for those amounts. There is some debate as to the truth of this.

Thanks, Jono! An interesting origin story. The clue makes perfect sense now with that background info.

I also prefer the Everyman when it isn't a straight write in. However I get that some have got used to it being their way of getting into cryptic crosswords so you can't please all the people all the time I guess. I enjoyed this.

Bit of Whitehouse and Mortimer and then get ready to greet the new week.

See you all next weekend.

Hello,

Having managed to get to the end of the Everyman and Quiptic (and having struggled a bit), I was sort of reassured to see that the people on here who I see as experts seem to have also found these a bit difficult :)

I'm still at the point where I find setters like Paul as a bit too much of a stretch for me, but I'll keep trying :)

Try adding together what a bookmaker might call a monkey and 20 ponies, and what do you get?

I have stared at this for 2 days and I am ashamed to say I have solved ZERO clues.

I’ve looked at the answer for ponies and a monkey so I now have that but I cannot see anything else at all.

In fact, I retract that statement.

Is the answer G**** repeated?

Hello druh,

13d is an anagram (indicated by "adrift") which is a good place to start.
Meaning is "Atlantic ship".

11d is also an anagram (indicated by "displayed", I assume?).
Meaning is "attractive (bank) accounts"

I did find this one hard! Seemed to have lots of the sort of clues I struggle with (ie charades where you need to think of synonyms and stick them together - at least I think that's what charades are!)

Hope this helps.
