Thanks Buddy - a nice puzzle with the usual Americanisms to grapple with (e.g. 26, 42D).

Although I understood that 11 was the part of 21 that was a 1A!

Thanks, Buddy. I don't understand 15d, though I have the entry, and see where it comes from.

mattrom: I haven’t done the puzzle since I don’t have a printer here on the island (note to self: get one), but looking at the clue…

The arc of a story, also known as a narrative arc or dramatic arc, is the structure of a story's plot and how it progresses. It's the chronological order of events, from the beginning to the end, and can be represented as a diagram in the shape of a mountain peak.

Thanks, buddy.
Saw the theme quickly yesterday, made good progress but drew blanks on 11d and 44a on the first pass. Picked it back up today and pennies dropped.
I thought some of the Americanisms, specifically the insurance salesperson, might be too obscure for non-US solvers, but apparently not. ;-)

To your point, Geeker, I find the Americanisms no more difficult to figure out than the 'Scottish-isms' frequently found in UK puzzles - and I live in the county of Argyll...
