Two I'm having problems in parsing:

8D order parts for Parisian from market. (5, 2)

T _ A _ E, _ N

Looks like it must be TRADE IN but I don't really see why.

23A Can of sauce (4)

_ A _ O

MAYO? But again I don't really see why.

Any suggestions?

I think both are right. May is a synonym for can, as in “can I ask you something?”, plus o for of, eg man o’ war.

To order can mean to train, as in arrange or instruct, and it parts for de, French for from, giving the answer, which can mean to market.

So “parts for” means opens up to allow the insertion of, I should have said

Thank you quisling, your explanations more or less echo my thinking. They're not really very satisfying clues though are they?

I don't mind mayo, but I wasn't a fan of the first one. I didn't do the puzzle, but I guessed when I read the clues that Dean Mayer must be the setter, and it seems I was right. He's very much marmite, for me. I confess I don't enjoy his puzzles much and I find some of his definitions a stretch. But each to their own.

I agree with you about 8D: the bits are all there, but the order is all over the place!
