Jono - re 7d, I've just seen that the COD does the same. I hereby send a rolling-eyes emoji towards all lexicographers.

Druh if it helps I always look for the first letter clue and any hidden words ones as an easy way to get me started. 10a helped me get 25a as they are the rhyming pair. 9d made me smile.

All completed but the parsing of 2d escapes me; any hints would be appreciated.

Hi CD,

2d - the second short word is the name of a very popular animated film (I haven't seen it but it's No 112 on IMDB top 250 films of all time!) then in you split the first word 4, 2 it could mean "act in" followed by single letter "grand"

I never heard of the answer to 26 Across before, so I had to look it up to solve it.

It appears that the answer in the puzzle is the *plural* of this "Alpine dish", even though it is clued as singular.

Or am I missing something?

Agreed on 26, daz. I guessed the answer immediately (the singular is common in cryptics), but was confused by the plural and didn't write in the solution until I had crossers.

I have also only seen 26 in the singular previously, but couldn't a "dish" consist of several 26? It seems it is basically a potato pancake. I'm sure you're going to want more than one. If one can have a dish of latkes, then why not 26?

darla, I thought that was possible and wrote in the solution without thinking further.

According to the always reliable Wiki, there is indeed a plural form with appended "s": https://tinyurl.com/5d5vvdwv
