My daily request for assistance…

Essentially I am missing the entire lower half of this crossword which everyone says is easy.

Could I please ask for hints for 2 clues?

16a - Obnoxious person with a drink (4)

18a - Reason proposal includes one tank (10)

Again, I don’t know how to read these clues.

I’m hoping that some extra letters might “get me in” to the bottom half.

16, Sod a ?

18, Mot i vat ion ?

Rusty, this is a kindly message - because I know the OP is keen to get to grips with the Guardian puzzles - it was hints that were requested...

I don’t actually understand 18a. Am I missing something straightforward?

MOTION is the proposal
Included is I VAT - "one tank"
Definition is "reason" (for doing something)
