Yes I agree. The inverted commas perhaps indicate it's not an exact match.

Now I think of it a bit more, your explanation of the cry of disapproval does make the two words match better.

In 16 D, if you remove the Far from 'fanfare' and anagram what's left with Trill, you get Flatliner. That fits the letters you've shown, but doesn't seem to tie up with the clue! There might, of course, be another anagram, something more Viz-like?

FLATLINER appears on page 217 of the current Profanisaurus.
"A burst of numerous, regularly spaced air biscuits of equal length and volume, followed by one long, sustained release....From this act's rhythmic similarity to the sound made by TV hospital drama heart monitors...."

Thanks, unlockholmes! I'd seen Flatliner ages ago, but the definitions in my dictionaries were of no use. I've never seen the Profanisaurus... and don't feel at all deprived!

@geeker Yes but I cannot parse it.
@malone You're welcome. The new edition of Profanisaurus (Turtleshead Revisited) is to be published next month but you may not need to know this information.

Unlockholmes, I usually greet the new editions of dictionaries with great enthusiasm, but in this case...

Isn't Needles just a double definition (apparently a clean one)?
