18a Hired ruffian's year stalking male cricketer (8)

?y?m?d?n

Please don't tell me the answer, can you give me a hint? I don't even know what the definition is supposed to be.

Standard abbreviations for male and year (the latter two letters).

A fielding position.

Fair to say it’s not the commonest word, but the definition precisely matches Chambers.

Thank you, had to resort to cheating. Hadn't heard of the answer, and didn't know 'midon' was a word, so I was never going to get this.

Could some please parse 43D for me. “What racing tipster is in relation to starting price” 7. I have A-A-R-M and the only thing I can fit is “anagram” but I can’t parse that.
Thanks in advance.
