I have completed the grid and found the quotation.
Are we supposed to do anything more ?

No,Krauton, I think that's it. We couldn't really fill the grid until we were sure of the quotation, as there were several entries with choices of letters.

Thank you, Piccadilly. That was quite gentle, particularly as (for no reason that I can fathom) the quotation has stuck in my head since Uni, which I attended shortly after Napoleon’s second exile - or at least that’s what it feels like….

Lovely puzzle to idle a gloomy Irish Sea afternoon. Left with the parsing at 24 down. Pretty confident of my solution but can't justify it (two letters require omission).

I think the last four letters are from the ' initially difficult..., the first four are from 'On'. Counter indicates reversing...

Thanks, Bobby- my explanation seemed rather garbled. I knew exactly what I meant, but might not have phrased it very well. It sounds as if you got the gist anyway!
