Can’t quite make sense of 1ac.

From the US, sound judgement’s close to calm (5).

I have TE–SE.

It looks to me like TEASE, with Judgement’s close = T and comfort = ease but if this is the case, what is the definition?

TERSE AND TENSE also fit the hole but I can’t make any sense of them.

Look up the definitions of “sound” (as a transitive verb) in Chambers. That should resolve things for you.

Thanks! I thought I’d checked every definition of SOUND but clearly missed that one.
