(1) -10 Across "Fail to begin stylish aspiration" (4). The answer has to be "WISH", but other than literal meanings of both halves is there something clever I'm missing?
(2) - 21 Down "Musical Ragdolls" (4). Obviously "CATS" is a musical, but where do the "Ragdolls" fit in?

SWISH, stylish, lose first letter

CAT and RAGDOLL can both mean a mean or slatternly woman, acc. to Chambers.

Isn't Ragdoll also just a breed, variety of cat?
