Confused after I’d lost direction, got lost (6)

Thanks to all the entrants. Extremely strong field: practically every clue could be praised and I'll surely slight many.

tyke51@14 was an elegant nautical clue.
Hoped for some BBC entries, paul@7/8 and buddy@11 obliged.
Paul was in great form, I'll single out his 18 with reference to the "pink organ" (FT), which I was hoping to encounter.
Also liked geting@3, simplesimon@20, sam73@24 and aristo@25.

But as an American, darla@22 particularly resonated / vibrated / whatever, so that is the winner!
