Really lovely puzzle but I'm struggling to get the final letter of 6d with any confidence. Is the answer without letters omitted quite obscure?

cmjh - not particularly obscure - unlike the two bits of wordplay involved!

That was very enjoyable, thank you Ace of Hearts. Some very tricky clues and i had to leave it for a day before coming back to 20a/20d.

Thought that was pretty tough, but very fair. Got a lot easier after I figured out the message about half way through.

The big question is is this a permanent move to the square side for The Ace of Hearts, or will he be back with one of his usual circulars next time?
