2 'P' announced after a race (8,5)
I got the answer ‘ starting price ‘ not sure why.

That's spot on. In horse (and greyhound) racing, the odds fluctuate before the race is off. All bets placed which don't "take a price", i.e. lock into particular odds for the horse in question, are settled at the average price available when the race begins. This is known as the SP, or starting price, which is published at the end of the race.

Because P starts the word 'Price'..... ie. starting price = P

I think it is an attempt at humour. A contradiction between ‘ after’ and ‘ before ‘ .
