Thanks and, sadly, farewell to Mr Magoo.

With so much unclued, I wondered if this would be a stretch too far. But ODQ delivered unambiguously once a key word became obvious.

Hi, Jack. I thought the shame - sad to say farewell to Mr Magoo, especially as the Spectator doesn't seem to have a huge stable of great setters! And the puzzle was the right mixture for me. There were plenty of good clues and the thematic element, which looked tricky initially, came together very speedily.

Agreed. The keyword, once found, doesn't allow any ambiguity in the ODQ index. That this is Mr Magoo's last crossword for the Spectator is indeed sad news. especially given some of the very uninspiring and mundane recent offerings.

Pretty tricky if you do not have ODQ, as Google stubbornly refused to yield until almost all words became clear! Agreed, Mr M wiil be missed.

For me the keyword ends in S and it's a word you are much more likely to see in the singular.
