Some explanations needed

Few clues in the latest puzzle that I’ve worked out the answer to but don’t really get the cryptic side of the clue if anyone could explain.

Explosive theologian given a lift somewhere in Somerset - Cheddar

Writer was ill, endlessly upset - Elia

Poor entertainment, not at all well done! - Bad show (double definition? Might be overthinking this one )

They stop tiles coming loose - hatpins

HE explosive DD theologian in CAR (given a lift)
AILE(d) backwards
I think BAD SHOW is right
"Tiles" are slang for hats.

I'm glad I don't do this one - not good quality clues!

Not sure about the first, but the second is ailed with the d removed (endlessly) and then reversed (upset - so this is a down clue.)

Correct about the third, and the fourth I had to look up in Chambers, but apparently tile is a slang term for hat.

HE (high explosive) + DD (doctor of divinity) inside CAR

AILE- d

Double definition, as you rightly say

Tile is slang or a hat
