I'm thinking it must be IMMODEST (which includes M, MODE for masculine way of working) but don't understand the rest

12A Reduce staff employed in key market (6)

(Would begin with a D if 6D is IMMODEST)

Am thinking DEMAND (MAN = staff) but once again I don't see the rest.

Any suggestions?

Masculine = M
Way of working = MO (Modus Operandi)
inside/stopping That is = ID EST

Reduce staff = DE MAN (as in 'de scale' a kettle etc)+ Key = D
