The Grauniad does it again, with an extraneous clue, presumably from a previous puzzle. Otherwise not to bad, though I have not spotted the usual Maori reference.

PS: extra clue appears in the print version, not the online one. However, it is hard to see how one could submit the online version, since one has to indicate where the solutions actually appear.

All solved except for the extraneous 26A and the fourth clue in Chain 1 which reads:

More than one place in the county not opening

The letters I have are ???R??

Anybody got a hint for me?

Germy, I haven't started on the puzzle yet - but isn't it 'country' rather than 'county'?

Actually in the country. Defn starts the clue, then an abbreviation, then a word for the last bit less initial letter.

You're correct - it is country not county, and thanks for the tip.
