OK thanks Jono. I see it I just don't know the examples.

Good spot on the Nina BTW Rogissimo. Would not have spotted that.

Quite straightforward today. I have just one query: is 1D just a cryptic definition? There seem to be only two possible answers and I have the apparently most suitable.

Hi Cymro, I read it as a two letter word inside a six letter word

Lots of anagrams. I agree that 22a is very parochial. 21d and 22d rather weak.

Quite a gentle one this week, FOI 20a LOI 23a COD 25a and 11a was a new word for me. I agree with Chrise that 21d and 22d were a bit too obvious. I liked 11a as it was a new word for me

Hi Eagle
A Nina is a hidden message, named after a cartoonist's daughter, who he worked into all his cartoons.
In this case, read around the outside squares.

Nina hint helped finish top right. 3,7, 11 and 25 held me up. Took a minute to parse 7. Getting the flag clue quicker nowadays. Raining in south of Spain. Rare excuse to stay in. Might try Genius. Quick cryptic somewhat less intimidating for beginners. I started trying the cryptic because someone in a Whitstable sandwich bar occasionally asked the room for general knowledge. Before that they had never registered on my radar, especially as I was a poor speller. I would guess a single explained clue next to the quick every so often often may get more people in but might spoil the penny drop moments for some.
