I'm terrible at cryptics, and half the time just have to put in answers which fit, even though I can't fully see the logic, so...

surprising how quickly you can improve by having answers explained.
a poster called Pooksahib used to ask for answers nearly everday,now it is pretty rare to see him on this site.

You're right - it's an enormous help to have clues explained, not just answered, but I've found people on this site very helpful (and patient). I am getting better, but there always seem to be 2 or 3 clues that just stump me.

Re aerate - one definition I've spotted says "To supply or charge (liquid) with a gas"
