A political con? D-T-I-E- (The ? is part of the clue.)

DETAINEE would be a con, at least in a PE puzzle, but "political"? A political con is a Tory, so maybe it's a prominent member of that party. Naturally I don't know such things. Too woke, I guess.

Upon googling, detainee was defined by Oxford Languages as "a person held in custody, especially for political reasons."

Hi, I am having trouble parsing 14dn "Given the Opposition party treatment: done to death? (10) which seems to be belaboured - but where do the first two and last two letters come from?

I think the first part of the clue is attempting to be mildly whimsical in that if you were to give something the opposition party treatment it might “ be laboured”…

Eye 776. 4A "Good to have youth support, as campaigning politician's often do" (4-4). Think the answer is glad rags but can't for the life of parse it with the clue!
